The Town of Milton recovers part of ambulance operations costs by billing insurance companies for the cost of transports. All billing operations are handled by a third-party vendor. Ambulance transport fees are set by the Selectboard annually. Each year staff analyzes current operating costs, local and national insurance trends, and the impact on individuals to recommend changes in the fee structure. Rates are designed to capture the true cost of ambulance transport, which includes not just the expense of responding to an individual call, but the cost of 24 hour readiness, staff, medical oversight, and training. Fees are set and revised by calendar year.
